Century Printing and Packaging was founded 25 years ago. Don Waldrop and his sons, Ben and Neil saw the need for quality labels and wanted to expand their small textile supply business. As Don made sales contacts and connections, Neil (just out of a stint in research and development packaging at Clemson University), running the company’s first press in a converted bathroom, and Ben maintaining the textile supply business, it became clear that the family was about to carve out a significant niche in the printing and packaging industry.
The vision further expanded in 2001, when the company moved to its current plant located in Greer, South Carolina. The Waldrop men and five employees moved in one month after the tragic events of 9/11 rocked the nation. Despite those challenging times they persevered and focused on producing high-quality labels, backed by tenacious customer service, and support. The company began to grow with a large and loyal customer base. Newspaper labels became a significant part of the business.
Today, Century has 26 employees, five presses including digital and flexographic. In addition, we are adding a new Digital/Flexo Hybrid at the end of 2021 that will expand our capabilities even further. In 2020 the company produced 249MM labels! While still providing newspapers with labels the company has expanded into a wide variety of printing and packaging products. Much of the growth and expansion has taken place in the areas of food, beverage, and nutraceutical labels and packaging. Continual growth in technology, innovative product development, and partnerships have taken a small company into a serious competitor with a reputation for doing things right and exceeding customer expectations in the printing and packaging industry.
Century Printing and Packaging has been ISO Certified since 2017. As a part of the manufacturing community in the upstate of South Carolina, the company is active in SCMEP and the Upstate Manufacturing Sector Partnership.
